Windows 10 update, KB5037768, is now available through Windows Update, bringing a reliable taskbar search feature. Alongside this enhancement, users will notice a new alert encouraging the use of a Microsoft account on PCs with local accounts, although it can be dismissed. Additionally, Microsoft has made .msu offline installers for KB5037768 available on the Update Catalog.
This update is crucial for Windows 10 users as it includes numerous security fixes. Among them is a resolution for the “0x9f DRIVER POWER STATE FAILURE” error that occurs when resuming laptops from sleep mode. Furthermore, a bug causing issues with VPN connections and Copilot in Windows 10 has been addressed.
For those running Windows 10 22H2, installing the May 14 patch will advance their PCs to Build 19045.4412. While these updates typically download and install automatically, users can manually check for updates by navigating to Settings > Security & Updates and clicking on “Check for updates.”

What’s new in Windows 10 Build 19045.4412
This month’s updates are smaller than ever, with Microsoft shrinking the size of both security and optional updates by 20%. Previously, these changes were only seen in updates for Windows 11, but now they’re being applied to Windows 10 as well.
In terms of new features, the official support document highlights that Build 19045.4412 boasts a faster and more reliable Windows Search (the taskbar search), making it easier to find what you need.
Additionally, you’ll notice that finding an app after installation is now simpler as it’s pushed higher in the search results.
In our own testing, Windows Latest observed that recently downloaded apps from the Microsoft Store appear promptly in the search listing, even ranking above apps with identical names. Microsoft is also experimenting with a new “personalized app search experience,” although as of May 14th, it doesn’t seem to be available to everyone.
A new Microsoft account nagging
Another significant change in Windows 10 KB5037768 is the introduction of a new banner in the Settings app when the Microsoft account is not linked to the system. This alteration was previously trialed in the optional update but is now being implemented for all users.

As depicted in the screenshot above, Windows Latest noticed that the Settings home page encourages users to consider using Microsoft services. The company is emphasizing features like OneDrive and synchronization to promote the adoption of Microsoft accounts.

When we clicked the button, Windows opened the Backup app, prompting us to sign into a Microsoft account and back up all files to OneDrive.
To stop the alert from appearing and disable the persistent reminders, you can go to Settings > Privacy & Security > General in Windows 10 Build 19045.4412. On the settings page, simply toggle off all the switches.
