At the annual build event 2024, Microsoft introduced Copilot+ PCs, featuring exclusive AI capabilities. Among these features is “Recall,” which is limited to specific hardware and enables screen recording. Additionally, the Paint app on Copilot+ PCs debuts a new feature called “Cocreator.”
Cocreator sets itself apart from the existing Image Creator in Microsoft Paint due to its local functionality. Unlike its predecessor, Cocreator operates entirely on the device, eliminating the need to send prompts to the internet for image generation. This localized operation results in faster image production. Within the Paint app, users will find three options: Image Creator, Cocreator, and Layers.
During a demonstration on the Surface Pro, equipped with a touchscreen, Microsoft showcased Cocreator’s capabilities. The presenter initiated the process by inputting a prompt and then proceeded to sketch a basic outline of the desired image. Cocreator subsequently generated the image based on these rudimentary shapes, highlighting its intuitive and responsive functionality.
In addition to its core functionality, Cocreator offers users the flexibility to adjust the creativity level of the AI during image generation. A simple slider control facilitates this adjustment: increasing the slider enhances image quality, while decreasing it yields less visually appealing results.
Users can leverage the power of the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) to create images while inking or opt to utilize the Image Creator feature, which generates images using Copilot. Furthermore, on Copilot+ PCs, the Photos app introduces an image styling feature, further expanding the creative possibilities for users.
Photos app gets Restyle Image feature
Microsoft has enhanced the Photos app on Copilot+ PCs with the addition of a new feature: Restyle Image. This feature enables users to transform existing photos into various pre-configured artistic styles.
For instance, users can convert a standard profile photo into an anime-style image using the Restyle Image feature. Moreover, users have the option to define their own unique artistic style by inputting text prompts, providing a personalized touch to the image transformation process.
Similar to the functionality in the Paint app, users can adjust the creativity level within the Restyle Image feature, offering greater control over the final output. This enhancement adds further versatility and creativity to the Photos app on Copilot+ PCs, complementing existing features such as iCloud support and background blur.
The significant distinction noted by Windows Latest is the absence of a fixed credit system for utilizing the features. Cocreator and Restyle Images operate locally on the PC, enabling the creation of unlimited designs using locally available small language models.
These features leverage the power of the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) and are not universally accessible on all Windows PCs. Consequently, existing Windows 11 users are restricted to Copilot and other web-based Copilot GPTs, as Cocreator and Restyle Images are exclusive to Copilot+ PCs.
