Microsoft unveiled Edge version 125 for its stable channel in the current week. Following enhancements in profile management and customization controls in the previous release, this iteration concentrates on the visual aspect of Edge Workspace.
Upon initiating a workspace, the title bar now reflects the chosen color during its creation. However, in Edge version 125, the browser window’s border undergoes a transformation to match the Workspace’s color scheme. This alteration in the user interface facilitates swift identification of the Workspace amidst a sea of standard windows.
Furthermore, alongside the aesthetic adjustments, all tabs housed within the Favorites folder now manifest within the Workspace. This enables seamless access and viewing of preferred websites alongside collaborators, eliminating the need to toggle between standard and Workspace windows. Previously, the Favorites folder remained unshared when initiating a Workspaces window.
Microsoft Purview’s copy-paste controls have also undergone refinement, presenting self-dismissing dialogs upon successful paste actions.
In addition to these significant enhancements, Microsoft introduces the following new policies:
ImageEditorServiceEnabled: Activating this policy unlocks the Designer for Image Editor feature. Windows Latest previously highlighted this enhancement within the image editing interface, redirecting users to the Microsoft Designer page, which hosts a range of AI-powered tools including a background remover.
QRCodeGeneratorEnabled: This directive activates QR Code Generator functionality within Edge. When sharing a URL via Windows Share, users will encounter a QR code generator option. This innovation eliminates the necessity of transmitting the URL directly to recipients, allowing for convenient scanning via mobile devices instead.
ZstdContentEncodingEnabled: This regulation activates zstd content encoding support, enhancing page load speed and diminishing bandwidth consumption.
Furthermore, Microsoft has disclosed the deprecation of the AllowTokenBindingForUrls policy in the release notes. Additionally, the Microsoft Defender Application Guard extension and its corresponding Microsoft Store application have been deprecated. Nevertheless, a multitude of thrilling Edge features are currently in development.
Resource Controls in Edge: Browsers demand significant system resources to optimize performance, which can burden low-end PCs. Microsoft introduces Resource Controls in Edge, empowering users to restrict Edge’s RAM utilization, thereby mitigating resource strain.
TechPK experimented with this functionality in the Canary channel and successfully adjusted RAM allocation using a slider interface. This flexibility enables users to allocate more RAM to other applications and games as desired. However, it’s important to note that allocating minimal RAM to Edge may result in diminished performance.
