Additionally, the cumulative update is observed on a leaked Windows 11 LTSC build. For users in the Dev Channel, Windows 11 KB5037869 is available, featuring additional bug fixes.
Windows 11 KB5037783 upgrades Windows 11 to Build 26100.560, while KB5037869 advances it to Build 26120.670.
So, what distinguishes these two updates? As previously outlined, the rollout of Windows 11 24H2 occurs in two phases: Snapdragon X PCs initially receive the update (Build 26100), followed by an update to Build 26120.xxx in September/October, incorporating additional AI features. In essence, Build 26120 serves as an enablement package for Windows 11 24H2 Build 26100.
While Snapdragon X PCs undergo a two-phase rollout for Windows 11 24H2, Microsoft intends to deliver the update for existing PCs in a single release.
What’s new in KB5037783 for Windows 11 24H2
KB5037783, accompanying solely security fixes, is now available for download on all Windows 11 24H2 installations, regardless of participation in the Insider testing program.
As detailed in the official release notes for the Windows 11 May 2024 Update, KB5037783 (Build 26100.560) addresses an issue where certain VPN connections may fail to function. However, it’s important to note that VPN-related problems may persist for some users, as the bug remains unresolved for all configurations.
Microsoft has also resolved a significant issue affecting domain controllers (DC), mitigating high resource consumption during NTLM authentication. NTLM authentication is a critical feature utilized by businesses to securely authenticate clients, employees, and other entities.
Prioritizing enterprise-related bug fixes ahead of the broader rollout of Windows 11 24H2 aligns with Microsoft’s strategic focus.
Furthermore, KB5037783 includes fixes for Server Message Block (SMB) clients, rectifying instances where businesses experienced failures in establishing SMB Multichannel connections.
What’s new in KB5037869
Windows 11 KB5037869 is only available in the Dev Channel. This update advances the OS to Build 26120.670.
During our testing at Windows Latest, we observed that the cumulative update requires approximately 8 minutes to download and install.
Following the installation of the cumulative update, users will observe the return of the Network Locations shortcut in File Explorer. Previously, a bug had caused this feature to disappear, but it has now been successfully rectified.
